We are delighted to announce our new charity of the year as North East based cancer charity ‘The Sir Bobby Robson Foundation’.
The Sir Bobby Robson Foundation was chosen as our nominated charity after staff voted for charities they would like to support, with the foundation proving most favorable in a whole firm staff vote. We will be organising various fundraisers and events over the next year to help raise funds and hope to establish an active relationship with the charity.
Our previous fundraising efforts, which included a staff relay from Newcastle to London, raised £35,000 for Great Ormond Street Hospital Children’s Charity and The Great North Children’s Hospital. We hope to be successful as we embark on our next fundraising challenges for The Sir Bobby Robson Foundation.
Sir Bobby launched his Foundation in 2008 after a request to help raise funds from his oncologist and in 2009 officially opened the Sir Bobby Robson Cancel Trials Research Centre.
The centre is at the forefront of research into cancer and offers patients access to early trials and potential new treatments, as well as working closely with the Imaging Research Centre to improve diagnosis and study the effects of new drugs. The centre often coordinates ‘first in human’ trials working with National Cancer Networks to ensure cancer patients get offered the best and pioneering treatment options.
The charity is a fund within the Newcastle upon Tyne Hospitals NHS Charity. The Foundation funds projects within the Newcastle upon Tyne Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust that directly benefit cancer patients from across North East England and Cumbria – and which also contribute significantly to international research into the disease.
